January 2012 Luxe Box

So this little gem came in the mail this morning.

I'm actually not that thrilled with this month's box, although there was an effort made to improve last month's box by adding a second box? When I filled in the customer review form, I wrote (paraphrasing here) that I absolutely loathe receiving perfume samples. And this is like a joke. "Take a look at the collection of scents that we put together just for you!" Seems like they don't read through client feedback.

So here they are in all their 1.2mL glory. I could get these for free at The Bay, and some of these I already received in previous Luxe Boxes, but hoarders and perfume sample lovers should get a kick out of this. Curly Hair Solutions - Curl Keeper and NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil (Full Size) & NYX Round Lipstick (Full Size)
These are probably the products I'm most excited about - granted, NYX usually makes me break out in hives, and alternatives to the Curl Keeper were full-size Benefit products (that sold out before I could get my hands on that option in their "first come first serve" program). I used this on my hair this morning in place of Lush's R&B before curling my hair, and it's actually quite nice. I'm really pleased!

NYX Lipstick (Full size)
This was sent in a sheer light pink. Doesn't have a lot of coverage and rubs off pretty easily but it probably looks quite lovely with some pink lipgloss over top!

Contents of the second box: Schick Razor & Fekkai Hair Products
I am pretty thrilled about being able to try out the Fekkai hair products - I have a friend that swears by them. I found the addition of a razor in my box to be pretty comedic.. I hardly think that's a luxury beauty product, and the addition of several papers and an entire other box and paper to keep the products in place feel like such a waste in comparison to beauty subscription programs like Topbox, which are compact and more environmentally friendly.

Part of my gift to David. It's our two year anniversary on Monday, January 30th.

Bonus points if you can guess where this little guy is from!

Anyway, apologies for the rushed text - I'm headed off in a bit and wanted to get this post up so that people could have an idea of what's to come in this month's Luxe Box. This is my last month being a Luxe Box subscriber.. I don't think that for the money, it's been worth it. The products featured are hardly luxury products and are available at local drugstores. One thing that was in this month's box that wasn't featured was Seattle's Best Coffee - Ground Coffee... this would be nice if 1) I had a coffee machine that took ground coffee, and 2) If I drank coffee. Will probably be pawning this one off to someone else. Anyway, I'm much more excited about Glossy Box coming to Canada, which I've ordered one month of. It seems it's been consistently amazing if you watch YouTube unboxing reviews, and I can't wait for my February box to arrive!

If you received a January Luxe Box, please leave me your post link/review in the comments section below! I'm really interested in what everyone has to say about this month's box.

I don't subscribe to Luxe Box anymore, but I too a surprised at all the people who are exclaiming how much they love this box. It seems like a whole lot of quantity over quality. And really? Nyx? Razors? Uh, what happened to the "Luxe" in Luxe Box.

And I HATE those kinds of perfume samples too -- and I say that as someone who generally likes perfume. It just looks super cheap.

I completely agree with your review. I detest perfume and wrote it down and two months in a row I get a tons of them. I don't drink coffee either and there is a big bag of coffee. NYX is low end drugstore makeup that I would never buy. I'm glad I cancelled too and this was my last box. The only item I would use was the one I selected. The razor is available for free if you call Schick.

I hadn't heard of Luxe Box before, although I get Birchbox. It's... meh, although I got a full-sized eyeliner last time that I've been using every day. Luxe Box actually looks better.

this girl got a whole benefit powder blush

I received the benefit powder set as anonymous mentioned, the rest of my box is similar to yours. Seems like this month the awesome level of your box was dependent on how fast you replied to the first in line message.

Kinda lame.

Here is my blog post on what came in my box this month: http://gabsimas.blogspot.com/2012/01/january-2012-luxe-box.html.

I didn't pick any items when I got the email seeing as the benefit items were already sold out. I ended up getting a full size China Glaze nail polish in 'Aquadelic'

I was actually pretty pleased with the box I got, I didn't think it was terrible :p

I received the same box today and promptly cancelled. 4 of the samples LB has already sent me before. I've also repeatedly voiced my opinion on receiving fragrance samples to no avail. The only items I could really use out of the box were the Curl Keeper (left my hair feeling dry though), the Fekkai shampoo & conditioner sachets (I used them right away and they're decent), and the razor. Glymm and Topbox are so much better. I might check out Glossybox once I look at some reviews.

@Nadine, the lipstick is in 602 "Sash". It's a sheer frosty light pink :)

I also cancelled Luxe Box so this month was my last.

The money spent on the shipping and wasteful packaging must be ridiculous...it looks ridiculous compared to what products are contained inside.

Offering the Benefit products and then being out of stock - what a terrible tease, especially considering the usual low quality of samples.

Good idea, packaging and delivery (how many emails are required to ship one box) are totally out of sync with the times. Samples are not high-end or in general of new products...I do not recommend others join this service. Not worth it, I could spend the same money purchasing one product I really wanted to sample each month...or every other month, with the same cost.

I actually quite liked my box this month. It's almost all products I would use and the perfume samples are fine. I am 45kms from a mall that doesn't ever seem to get perfume samples so I am happy to get to try them. I figure the 30.00 of product I got was worth the 12.00.

I had been receiving luxe boxes since they went public this spring, but after December's horrid box I chose to quit (at least for a while).

I was getting overwhelmed with products and I was getting pissed off that I never recived emails anymore from them (so I too would have missed out on the benefit too) and the constant stream of anti aging creams in tiny bottles that would be useless.

The perfume samples pissed me off too. How many times do I have to tell them...not a deluxe sample.

You did a great review here, and I think I am glad I did not get any more. Until they return to form I am staying good bye to them.

Lots of item, but nothing "deluxe". I was disapointed this month and last month. But since some girls have been getting nice boxes (and I did too before), I'll keep on going for a while..

I've only got one box from them and quit. Their boxes are usually disappointing.

I wonder how much longer they'll be in business. I personally prefer Glymm and can't wait to get my first GlossyBox

I just came across your blog, and love it! I was pleasantly surprised to discover the Le Petit Petit Hypnosis shirt was your photo! Fantastic work.

I was curious about that Adventure Time Snow Golem embroidery. May I ask where you purchased it? Or did you make it?
